Bart was a college athlete for
years. He can run circles around me. He is very
flexible and energetic. His number one advice is to
get comfortable shoes so that your feet don't hurt.
Believe me you will not exercise if your feet hurt.
Walking is a great exercise. The
faster you walk and the longer that you walk the
more calories you burn. You should walk fast enough
to sweat but not so fast you can not speak.
With any exercise program,
START SLOW! On the first day you will have so
much energy and you will be so impressed with
yourself. The next day you will hurt in places you
didn't even know you had. If you are hurting, are
you going to get out there and get a good workout?
Are you crazy... you didn't even want to be out
there in the first place and now you have a perfect
excuse. Take it easy so that you will stick with it
long enough to make it a habit.
Bart also feels it is important to team up. Exercise with a friend...
it will keep you faithful to your routine. Exercise
can become a habit, but it takes weeks to go from
dread to habit. Exercising with a friend makes the
transition easier.
The last bit of advice that Bart
has, is to do aerobic exercise and weight
training. Aerobic exercise burns fat and makes a
healthy heart. Weight training is the key to firing
up your metabolism and burning more fat.
